    #1 The Self-Sustaining Kit

When talking about growing microgreens, "self-sustaining" refers to a system or setup that requires minimal intervention from the gardener to maintain and continue producing crops. A self-sustaining microgreen system typically includes features that automate critical aspects of the growing process, such as:

Automated Watering: The system is equipped with a mechanism that ensures the microgreens receive the right amount of water at the right times without manual intervention. It could include drip irrigation setups or self-watering trays that help maintain consistent soil moisture levels.

Lighting: Self-sustaining systems often incorporate built-in lighting, such as LED grow lights, that provide the necessary spectrum and intensity of light for microgreen growth. These lights can be programmed to turn on and off automatically to mimic natural daylight cycles.

Nutrient Delivery: Some self-sustaining systems can also automate the delivery of nutrients to the microgreens, either through pre-enriched growing mediums or through hydroponic setups that circulate nutrient-rich water directly to the roots of the plants.

Climate Control: Advanced self-sustaining systems may include features to control the temperature and humidity levels around the microgreens, ensuring optimal growing conditions throughout the growth cycle.

The goal of a self-sustaining microgreen system is to reduce the labor and attention required from the gardener, making it easier for people with busy lifestyles or limited gardening experience to successfully grow microgreens at home.

    #2 The Windowsill Wonder

The "Windowsill Wonder" is pretty self-explanatory. You use microgreen planters that fit on your windowsill and that get sufficient light. If you choose self-watering windosill microgreen planters, it greatly cuts down your day-to-day maintenance. If you're lucky like I was when I first started growing microgreens in NYC, some of my windows had extra-wide ledges so I could use larger planters. Check some of these out!

These windowsill planters are a good size at 17" x 4.5". The 2-pack is durable plastic, and self-watering. I like that it has a "water window" to let you know if there's more water in the resovoir. Depending on your growing conditions and how sunny your window is, you could fill the resovoir once a week and be done.
